Vermont Football Club Wraps Up First Season PDF Print E-mail
Written by Vermont Sports Network

The following is an email summary of the Univ. of Vermont club football team's first season, written by Doug Delica, who is responsible for leading the effforts to bring football back to the green and gold.  Looking forward to an even more successful second season.  PS - We could use a dedicated football beat writer too... Let us know if you are interested.

Hello Everyone,

The UVM Club Football Team had their last game of the season this past Sunday against the Vermont Ravens in the second round of the playoffs in the Northeast Independent Football League. The team lost 28-0 and the Ravens advanced to the championship game in Worcester, MA this weekend. Even though the team didn't make it all the way to the championship game, we had a very successful season overall. In the first year of competition, the team went 5-3 in the regular season, and 1-1 in the playoffs. The team gathered a lot of community and university support from school administrators, students, local businesses, and alumni. After a lot of hard work the University of Vermont now officially has its first football team in over 30 years.

I would like to personally thank each of you for the time and energy that you may have expended in helping this program start up this year. Whether it was volunteering at a game, providing press for the team, working on administrative aspects involving the team, donating to the team, or just showing up for a game, all of you have played a role in getting UVM Football back on the map.

The team has a lot of plans for the following year, and hopes to grow and expand as a program. I hope that all of you continue to be involved with UVM Football in whatever way you can!

Thank you all for everything.

Sincerely,

    Douglas S. DeLuca Jr.
    UVM Club Football
    President
