On February, 20, 2009, in response to the need for budget cuts, the University of Vermont athletic department chose to eliminate the varsity baseball and softball programs after the 2008-2009 academic year.
Each of the programs has been a loyal mainstay on baseball and softball scenes within the state, as well in department lore. Baseball was the first program started at the university and consistently has one of the highest amount of native Vermonters on its roster.

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men’s hockey team moved up to 13th in the latest USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Poll released today. The Catamounts were ranked 15th last week. Vermont swept No. 2 Boston University at Agganis Arena over the weekend with a pair of 4-3 victories.
Vermont (7-3-2, 4-3-1 HEA) is 5-1-1 in its last seven games and has moved into a tie for third place in Hockey East. The Catamounts visit No. 17 Massachusetts (6-4-1, 4-3-1 HEA) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Maine (7-3-1, 4-2-1 HEA) on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Tuesday’s game will be televised on CN8 (channel 188 for Comcast subscribers in Vermont). Saturday is Unicel t-shirt giveaway night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
