On February, 20, 2009, in response to the need for budget cuts, the University of Vermont athletic department chose to eliminate the varsity baseball and softball programs after the 2008-2009 academic year.
Each of the programs has been a loyal mainstay on baseball and softball scenes within the state, as well in department lore. Baseball was the first program started at the university and consistently has one of the highest amount of native Vermonters on its roster.

The University of Vermont men’s basketball team continues its two-game road swing at former America East rival Delaware (2-2, 0-0 CAA) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Cats (1-2, 0-0 America East) will be looking for their first road win of the season after falling to Maryland in overtime in their last time out. Tuesday marks the third straight season that these two teams have met, as they have split the last two contests. Both of Vermont’s losses this season have been in overtime.
