On February, 20, 2009, in response to the need for budget cuts, the University of Vermont athletic department chose to eliminate the varsity baseball and softball programs after the 2008-2009 academic year.
Each of the programs has been a loyal mainstay on baseball and softball scenes within the state, as well in department lore. Baseball was the first program started at the university and consistently has one of the highest amount of native Vermonters on its roster.
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men’s hockey team moved up to 12th in the latest USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Poll released today. The Catamounts were ranked 13th in the poll last week. Vermont jumped up to eighth in the latest Inside College Hockey Power Rankings. The Catamounts are also ranked second in the College Hockey News KRACH Ratings. The KRACH (Ken’s Ratings For American College Hockey) is a mathematically pure ratings system endorsed by College Hockey News.
Vermont (9-3-2, 6-3-1 HEA) has won five straight games to move into sole possession of second place in Hockey East. The Catamounts rallied to defeat No. 17 UMass, 3-2, in overtime last Tuesday and then defeated Maine, 3-2, on Saturday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
