Reinstatement of UVM Baseball and Softball

On February, 20, 2009, in response to the need for budget cuts, the University of Vermont athletic department chose to eliminate the varsity baseball and softball programs after the 2008-2009 academic year.

Each of the programs has been a loyal mainstay on baseball and softball scenes within the state, as well in department lore. Baseball was the first program started at the university and consistently has one of the highest amount of native Vermonters on its roster.

Dear UVM Football Supporters, Fans, Family and Players,

You may have already seen that the New York Times released an article about the UVM Club Football Team today in the sports section! The broad coverage is a tool we hope to use to Please read it reach out to more supporters of UVM Football just like you . . . Thank you so very much for your support and vested interest in the success of football at the University of Vermont.

As you read the article the term "Never say Never!" comes to mind:

 - Most thought football would Never return to UVM
 - Many thought Doug Deluca would Never get the club off the ground
 AND

At our end of season banquet that was attended by players, family and friends (next year we will extend the invite to QB Club Members as well) theme of Never being able to play football again was consistent as the departing seniors gave their farewell speaches.

They to a man thanked Doug Deluca for his focus and efforts in giving them a chance to understand that "Never say Never" means "Do not give up" if you believe in something.

The NYT article is another recap of exactly that and as we head into the off season to confirm our schedules and off season work I ask you to use this article as a vehicle to share the great things going on back in Burlington at UVM . . . Football.  We need more supporters like you so please spread the word and look for our schedule in February/March so that can begin to plan to attend a game of two and by all means put Homecoming on your calendar October 2-4 2009
- Consider yourself asked to be in attendance at our Homecoming game!!!!!!!

Again, thank you for your continued support and contributions to keep the program going!
