Reinstatement of UVM Baseball and Softball

On February, 20, 2009, in response to the need for budget cuts, the University of Vermont athletic department chose to eliminate the varsity baseball and softball programs after the 2008-2009 academic year.

Each of the programs has been a loyal mainstay on baseball and softball scenes within the state, as well in department lore. Baseball was the first program started at the university and consistently has one of the highest amount of native Vermonters on its roster.

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 83, Stony Brook 72

Junior Marqus Blakely scored 20 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as the University of Vermont men’s basketball team defeated Stony Brook 83-72. Mike Trimboli handed out a game-high five assists in the win and in the process passed T.J. Sorrentine '05 for second place all-time at Vermont.

The Cats improve to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in America East action with the win.

Marqus Blakely looks to move past Bernie Cieplicki for the 27th spot on the UVM scoring list Monday when the Catamounts take on defending conference Champion UMBC. He needs 11 to take that spot.

NOTE:  Mike Trimboli is 4th on the all-time scoring list with 1761 points.  He needs 252 more points to overtake TJ Sorrentine for 3rd on the list.
