Written by Preston Junger
Wednesday, 28 January 2009

The University of Vermont men's basketball team played and won its second straight at home on Wednesday night when the Catamounts hosted America East rival Maine.

Marqus Blakely led the charge with 23 points, 20 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Evan Fjeld continued to show his stuff with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.  He is now 14-14 on field goals in his last three games.

Mike Trimboli became the all-time assists leader, surpassing Catamount great Kenny White.

Winners of six straight, the Cats (15-6, 6-2 America East) sit alone in first in the America East standings with Binghamton and Boston University closely behind.  Vermont has won five of the last six meetings vs. Maine (8-13, 3-5 America East) and is 8-2 at home this year.
