Dear Former UVM Catamount,
Since 1888, baseball has been the icon sport at UVM and now the end of this era is drawing near... How disheartening it is for a state university to eliminate baseball from their varsity athletic organization.
The economy has now affected our sons and daughters. UVM athletics has ended the future of UVM baseball and softball. They dismantled not only teams, but many friendships. There will be players leaving UVM in search for another team because they breathe each day looking forward to the spring season to begin. It's a terrible loss not only to the team but to the parents, student body and the school of Vermont. No football OR baseball???? We are all affected by this dismal sign of the times... but I feel that to single eliminate two teams, baseball and softball; it only affects the players of these teams and business as usual for the others. I honestly do not see this as a fair decision by eliminating both teams. This will be a great loss to UVM and the Catamounts. It will be very costly for UVM to rebuild a baseball / softball team once it has been eliminated.
I would encourage you to support the baseball and softball teams and reinstate these long standing institutional games that have been a landmark of the Catamounts for the past 120 years. However, whatever you can do to promote any financial help to reinstate the Catamount baseball / softball teams or your support in contacting the UVM president, board of directors, athletic director, media or whatever resource you have, will at least give the players hope and save the institution of baseball and softball from leaving UVM.. Time is of essence….
Thank you for listening...
