#8 Vermont Tops Maine 3-2 in Men's Hockey PDF Print E-mail

ORONO, Maine - No. 8 Vermont defeated Maine 3-2 in Hockey East action at Harold Alfond Arena Friday night.

Sophomore Dan Lawson (Oak, Forest, Ill.) netted the second power play goal of the game for the Catamounts to give them a 3-2 lead 3:37 into the third period. The goal proved to be the game-winner as Lawson blasted a one time shot set up by sophomore Chris Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) and junior Patrick Cullity (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Senior captain Dean Strong (Mississauga, Ont.) tied the game at 2-2 with his fourth goal of the season on a power play set up by sophomores Josh Burrows (Praire Grove, Ill.) and Justin Milo (Edina, Minn.) at 12:39 of the second perod.

Burrows recorded his fourth goal of the season as he sent a low wrist shot through traffic that beat freshman goaltender Scott Darling at 11:03 of the first frame. Senior assistant captain Corey Carlson (Two Harbors, Minn.) and junior Colin Vock (Detroit, Mich.) picked up assists on the play.

Sophomore Robby Dee found the back of the net for the Black Bears on their first power play of the night to gain a early 1-0 advantage at 8:18 of the first period. Coming into the second period tied at a goal a piece, senior Matt Duffy was able to beat Catamount goaltender Rob Madore (Venetia, Pa.) from the point to give Maine a 2-1 lead at 9:47 of the second frame.

Madore had a solid game in net with 30 saves on the night for Vermont
