Vermont Sports Network Discussion Picked up by OSU Beaver Blog PDF Print E-mail
Written by Preston Junger

It's nice to see that Beaver Nation (Bulding The Dam Blog) is taking notice of the Vermont Men's Basketball team (they play tonight at 10pm @ OSU - Televised on HDNet).

What the Vermont blogosphere is saying about us - http://www.buildingthedam.com/2009/3/22/807231/what-the-vermont-blogosphe

I went to the Vermont Sports Network website and looked at what they had to say about us. I will post their comments here and then reply to them. (Vermont comments in Bold.)

VSN-This is a crock of crap. The Beavers are a sub .500 team, and they get 2 home games? WTF? Their RPI is 156, ours is 97.. There SOS is 69, ours is 236.

Who cares if you have a high SOS if you LOSE all those games. They are 14-17, we are 24-8.

Tell me why we are traveling to Wisconsin and Oregon?

Me-In my opinion RPI means nothing but SOS does. The reasing you are traveling is because your school doesn't have enough money to host a game. I agree that they should host a game because our teams are pretty equal but we played at home in the first round and the played on the road.

VSN-They lost to Yale.. Give me a break.

We are going to shock the "Beaver Nation"

Like Vermont is going to be intimidated by 3500 fans in Oregon. We have played at Maryland and Pitt this year.

They aren't going to know how to stop MB23, Mike, Colin, Mojo and the boys.

Me-Yes we did lose to Yale but we are such a different team now. You will not shock Beaver Nation...They are all on Spring Break. I have no idea who MB23 is but he sounds like my username in Madden '09.

VSN-From looking at there lineup they dont seem to have a BIG that is a major part of the offense so that helps us for sure. We need to make sure MB23 stays out of foul trouble though.

Me-We don't have a BIG? Have you heard of Roeland "you can't stop him you can only hope to contain him" Shaftenaar?

VSN-When a team is 13-18 on the year and the 18 includes losses to Yale and Howard, it probably doesn't do ANYTHING well.

Me-We don't do anything well? How many Vermont players can say they ruined their teams chances for an NIT bid by cutting themself with a pineapple can? I think Calvin Haynes can do that pretty well.

VSN-The only reason this awful Oregon State team is playing in the postseason is because Prez Obama's brother-in-law is their coach. They're trying to bring any press whatsoever to a tourney that no one cares about.

Me-I can't really disagree with this comment. I admit to thinking this before the tourney but we proved we belong by beating Houston.

VSN-Let's not overlook Oregon State. While they have lost to Yale and Howard they have beaten Cal (twice), Stanford (twice), USC, Nebraska, Washington State, and Houston. If you put OSU in the America East they would finish 2-4.

Me-First of all, this guy is my favorite poster. If you put OSU in the America East though I think we would finish first of second.

VSN-I guess UVM would finish 4-6th place if we were in the Pac-10 this season.

Me-No way. Honestly I think they would finish last.

All right so now you're expecting a prediction. This game could really go either way. As coach Robinson likes to say it will be a game of imposing your will. My prediction is Vermont wins 60-59 in overtime.
