ALBANY, N.Y. – Seniors Maurice Joseph (Montreal, Quebec) and Marqus Blakely (Metuchen, N.J.) combined to score 33 points and lead the Vermont men’s basketball team to a 71-54 victory over Albany on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Cats have now won 10 of their last 11 overall, as they improve to 12-5 on the year and 3-0 in America East play.

The best road team in the nation in terms of wins (9), the Cats won their eighth straight away from home and defeated the Great Danes (5-12, 0-2 America East) for only the second time in their last seven tries. Joseph finished with a game-high 19 points, while Blakely just missed out on his fifth straight double-double with 14 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four blocks.

“I thought this was a great team win for us, everyone contributed in a positive way. Our defense on (Tim) Ambrose and (Will) Harris, two of the best offensive players in the league, was awesome. I am really proud of Maurice’s defensive effort today. He has had very good back-to-back defensive efforts, which has really helped our team win these road games,” said Vermont head coach Mike Lonergan. “Another big factor in us winning has been our rebounding. We are becoming a very good rebounding team and that wasn’t the case early in the season.”
