On Friday afternoon, the University of Vermont Women’s Basketball team held a Free Clinic for local 3rd through 8th graders. With a great turnout of over 120 youngsters, the team, led by the direction of Senior May Kotsopolous provided a fun filled, yet informative afternoon. For two hours, the middle school basketball players felt what it was like to be a Catamount running on the floor of Patrick Gymnasium. The team ran through their personal game day warm ups with the youngsters before splitting up into smaller groups to practice various drills. Each member of the Vermont Women’s team coached a small group to teach valuable skills from ball handling to shooting as well as showing proper strength and conditioning training. The event wrapped up with some small sided scrimmaging where the kids were able to use the new skills that the Lady Cats had taught them and incorporate this knowledge into a game like situation. All in all, the day was rewarding for both the Vermont Women’s team, who was able to give back to the community, and the children who attended the clinic and could take the lessons they learned back to their individual teams. The Lady Cats return to action on Monday for a rematch of last years America East Championship when they travel to Boston University to face the Terriers. Tip off begins at 7pm.
