BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Vermont men’s basketball team will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to face No. 1 seed Syracuse as part of the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament on Friday. The Catamounts earned a 16 seed and will be making their fourth trip to the tournament in school history and first since 2005.
UVM learned its seed and opponent when the bracket was announced tonight on CBS. Vermont earned a spot in the field of 65 by sweeping through the America East Tournament, wrapping it up with an 83-70 win over Boston University on Saturday in the championship game that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Senior Marqus Blakely (Metuchen, N.J.) paced the Catamounts in the championship game with 24 points, 18 rebounds and five assists on his way to earning the Reggie Lewis Most Outstanding Player honor. Blakely’s dunk in the final minutes of the contest came in at number one on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 plays.
