BURLINGTON, VT. - On Thursday night, Vermont High School basketball stars took their game to Burlington Memorial Auditorium for the second annual charity event, "Slam For Sudan." The event is a fundraiser aided by The Global Reach Partnerships Inc, whose mission is to "empower refugees with means to personal development and assist them in becoming leaders in the socio-economic development of both their community here in the United States as well as in their homeland." During the event, Vermont High School stars competed in three skills competitions; a point guard challenge, three point competition, and the featured event the dunk competition. The event was MC'd by Tom Kavanaugh, and had other local celebrities also helped out such as Ms. Vermont, and Ms. Teen Vermont as well as the Legendary Former Vermont Head Coach Tom Brennen, who was a judge in the Dunk Competition. Winners on the night included, Conor Leland of Mount Mansfield and Liz Douglass of Rutland in the Point Guard Challenge, Allison Gannon of CVU and Ben Ferris of Essex in the 3-point Challenge, and Evan Tullar of Spaulding in the Dunk Contest. If you were unable to attend the event, you can go to the Slam For Sudan website (see below) to donate to its great cause.
