BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 51-48 victory over Loyola in its home opener on Wednesday night at Patrick Gym. Senior Evan Fjeld (Durham, N.C.) led all scorers with 15 points. Loyola had the ball trailing 49-48 when Catamount freshman Brian Voelkel (Pleasantville, N.Y.) stripped Jamal Barney from behind, tipping it right to teammate Simeon Marsalis (New Rochelle, N.Y.). The Greyhounds quickly fouled Marsalis, as the sophomore stepped to the line and knocked down a pair of free throws to extend Vermont's lead to three with 11.1 seconds left.
