Jack Healey, the voice of University of Vermont men's hockey and a longtime sportscaster at WSYB radio in Rutland, will step away from both jobs to begin a new venture next month.
Healey will join Northeast Kingdom Sports Net, which plans to provide Internet video streaming of Vermont high school and college sports.
Healey, who began his Vermont sportscasting career in 1971, will continue to be based in Rutland County and focus on Southern Vermont sports, including Castleton State College hockey and basketballand eventually football. Healey also will do sales and a morning sportscast on the internet when he begins in early September.
He replaced Turk Stevens as the voice of UVM hockey seven years ago on WVMT-AM in Colchester after doing play-by-play for UVM basketball for two seasons. He also broadcasted UVM basketball from 1978-82.
Healey, reached by phone at home Wednesday night, confirmed his new job. He said it was a financial decision.
