MEN'S SOCCER (1-0-1; 0-0-0 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* The defending America East Champion Vermont Catamounts opened the 2008 campaign going 1-0-1 at the MSU/Radisson Soccer Classic. Vermont tied Western Michigan, 1-1, in double overtime in its opener Friday (Aug. 29) and topped host Michigan State, 2-1, for its first victory of the year Saturday (Aug. 31).
QUICK HITS: * Senior Jordan Crasilneck (Eugene, Ore.) factored in all three of Vermont’s goals during the opening weekend. He assisted on Lee Stephane Kouadio's (Woodlyn, Pa.) first half goal Friday against Western Michigan then had an assist and the game-winning goal in Sunday's win at Michigan State. Crasilneck has 17 career assists, third all-time at Vermont.
* The Catamounts lone Michigan native, T.J. Gore (Macomb, Mich.), returned home and picked up a pair of assists on the weekend. The junior forward set up Crasilneck's game-winner in the Michigan State victory Sunday.
* One of eight newcomers in the lineup this weekend, sophomore Connor O'Brien (Richmond, Vt.), a transfer from Division II Franklin Pierce, scored his first career goal in Sunday's win.
* Sunday's victory over Michigan State was UVM's first in five tries against a Big Ten opponent.
WHO'S NEXT:
* UVM's first home games of the year are Friday and Sunday, September 5-7 when it hosts the 18th annual Smith Barney Nike Soccer Classic at Centennial Field. Following the UNH-Memphis opener at 2:00pm on Friday, the Catamounts play La Salle at 4:30pm. On Sunday, UNH takes on La Salle at 11:00am with Memphis meeting Vermont at 1:30pm.
