TD Banknorth Soccer Classic - Game 1
Final Score: Vermont 1, Duquesne 1 (2ot) | Box Score
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont Catamounts and Duquesne Dukes women’s soccer teams kicked off the 2006 season with 110 minutes of action and played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime. It was the first game of the 2006 TD Banknorth Soccer Classic at Centennial Field.

“We were real pleased with the way we came out ready to give everything we had today,” said Vermont head coach Kerry Dziczkaniec. “We played to our strengths and that showed in the 10 corners we earned. We went out and worked hard and that was one of our goals for this game. I thought it was impressive that we were able to organize several scoring threats in the closing minutes of the game. That’s a sign of teamwork and something we take a lot of pride in. Overall this is was a great beginning for us and we look forward to Northeastern on Sunday.”

Vermont carried much of the play in the first half. The Catamounts held a 9-3 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks, but could not finish off their opportunities.

In the second half Duquesne fought back, producing 11 shots to Vermont’s three. However, the Catamounts were the first team on the scoreboard in 2006. Vermont freshman Carson Laderoute (Rutland, Vt.) collected a cross from teammate Kaitlin Francis (Hinesburg, Vt.) and beat DU goalkeeper Ginny Bondi for her first career goal and a 1-0 lead for UVM in the 85th minute.
