2006 Nike Fall Soccer Classic
Final Score: Vermont 3, Saint Peter’s 1 --Box Score
DURHAM, N.H. -- A pair of second half goals snapped a 1-1 deadlock and lifted Vermont to a 3-1 win over Saint Peter’s in the first round of the 2006 Nike Fall Soccer Classic at UNH’s Lewis Field. The game was the season opener for both schools.

“We were still in the preseason mode in the first half,” said Vermont coach Jesse Cormier. “We did not start well but to our guys’ credit they had a strong performance in the second half. We really need to make steady improvement heading into the next three games against quality opponents from the west coast.”

Cormier also singled out strong, composed efforts by sophomore back Jake McFadden (Colchester, Vt.) and junior Oregon State transfer Loren Hill (Eugene, Ore.), both

Good article in Rutland Herald: http://www.rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060802/NEWS/608020340/1007/SPORTS

BURLINGTON — The University of Vermont men's soccer program was recognized by College Soccer News as having the nation's 36th best recruiting class heading into the 2006 season. The Catamounts also received votes in the College Soccer News Preseason National Top 30 Poll released this week by the national men's soccer website.

"It is nice that our program has earned the respect of the national media," said Vermont head coach Jesse Cormier who enters his third season at his alma mater. "For us though, we measure ourselves on how hard we work to prepare for the coming season. We know we have our work cut out for us."

The preseason recognition highlights a complete turnaround by the UVM men's soccer program since the start of the 2004 season. That year the Catamounts were picked to finish last in the conference in the America East Preseason Coaches Poll yet finished the season in fourth place and hosted a quarterfinal game in the league tournament.

In the second recruiting class for Cormier and his staff, the Catamounts will have 10 newcomers on this season's roster with eight freshmen and two junior transfers. Of the eight freshmen, five received either all-region honors or were finalists for their state high school player of the year awards. In addition, junior forward Tyler Hasman was named to the NJCAA All-American First-Team after helping lead Yavapai College to the NJCAA Division I Championship Game and junior midfielder Loren Hill comes to UVM from Oregon State of the Pacific-10.
