Does anyone know why the Cats sometime wear gold uniforms at home (not often), and sometimes on the road. I know the general requirement is that home teams wear white while the road team wears it's colors. I'm curious as to the rules behind the choice of colors for games.

I believe the rule is that the home team wears a light colored jersey, and a dark jersey for the road team.

The yellow/gold jerseys seem to be the newer one's that I think the Cats will wear occasionally, not sure why. To be honest, I like the yellow/gold colored jerseys better than the green ones.

UVM has had the gold alternate jerseys for a few years now (e.g., Sorrentine wore his gold uniform to the final four three-point contest, the '04-'05 team wore them to play at North Carolina, and I may be totally making this up, but I believe they wore them to play at Notre Dame during Sorrentine's freshman year). In any event, most teams have an alternate colored uniform (Duke has black), and I am sure the team has some means of deciding when to wear them. Preston is right, though, that there are rules governing both where and how often they may be worn. Because ours are gold they can be worn either at home or on the road, but obviously the opposing team cannot have a similar color.

I like the gold uniforms. Unfortunately, it looks like George Mason copied them with the ones they wore this year (see ESPN.com photos of game vs. VCU at the CAA tournament for an example). I also like the current version of the green jerseys (with the gold lettering, instead of the black from the TJ/TC/etc. era). I think all Nike teams are required to buy 3 _style_s now as part of the contracts. Maryland has had a black alternate jersey for a few seasons, but Gary Williams seems not to like them, as the only time they were ever worn was in the NIT loss at home to Manhattan in 2006 (a game he didn't even really want), and before that at the ACC tournament in the loss to BC. I've heard rumors that Maryland may go to a gold alternate with red lettering like the 1980s (and I've seen a drawing of it - see
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspxS=174#S=174&F=2580&T=284491), but I don't think it will look as good as the Vermont gold uniform. I actually expected the gold for the AEC championship game, being on national TV.
