Forward Matt Marshall (Noble & Greenough Prep, Hingham, MA), defensemen Drew MacKenzie (The Taft School, New Caanan, CT) and Green Mountain Glades goalie Nick Eno (Howell, MI) were among those of Vermont interest selected in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Marshall and MacKenzie have given commitments to Kevin Sneddon's hockey program for the 2008-09 season.
Marshall, a 6'1" 175lbs forward was selected in the 5th round (150th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Marshall, who originally committed to Northeastern before selecting the Catamounts is described by McKeen's Hockey's Max Giese as a player "blessed with exceptional speed and possesses a gritty two way game. He knows how to use his explosive top gear and rapid acceleration to generate offense." Giese compares Marshall to former UVM standout Torrey Mitchell and ranked Marshall 58th on his Top 100 list of Draft Eligible Prospects.
MacKenzie, a 6'2", 200lbs defensemen was chosen by the Buffalo Sabres in the 7th round (209th overall). MacKenzie, who will play with the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL next season before coming to Burlington was a first round pick by Waterloo in the 2007 USHL Draft and is a "big defenseman with impeccable character and a steady defensive game. He's a formidable one on one defender that uses his reach and size well to neutralize his man." according to Giese, who ranks MacKenzie 50th in his Top 100 Draft Eligible Prospects.
Eno, a 6'3", 180lbs goaltender for the local Green Mountain Glades of the EJHL was also selected in the 7th round by the Buffalo Sabres with the 187th overall pick. Eno, like MacKenzie is also protected by the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL and will likely commit to an NCAA school for the fall of 2008.
