BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Teddy Fortin (Brunswick, Maine) of the University of Vermont was named Mission Hockey East co-Rookie of the Week for the period ending October 7. Teammates Kate Lesniak (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Saleah Morrison (Selkirk, Manitoba) were also selected to the weekly honor roll. The conference office made the announcement today.

A freshman forward, Fortin had a great opening weekend with a goal and four assists in Vermont's two-game sweep of Sacred Heart. She had multi-point outings in both contests with a goal and two assists in a 5-1 victory on Saturday and a pair of assists in UVM's 8-2 win Sunday. Her first collegiate goal was the eventual game-winner against the Pioneers in Saturday's season opener.

Fortin, who shared the award with Kayley Herman of UNH, is the second Catamount to win a Hockey East weekly award as UVM begins its third season in the league.

Lesniak scored three goals in Vermont's 5-1 season opening win over Sacred Heart Saturday to become the first Catamount to record a hat trick at the Division I level. The senior tri-captain added an assist on the eventual game-winner in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Pioneers. Lesniak had scored only four times in her first three seasons and had just two last year before Saturday's outburst that also included a short-handed goal.

A freshman defenseman, Morrison was solid on the blue line all weekend recording a plus-five plus/minus rating over both games. Like Fortin, she scored her first career goal in her collegiate debut tying Saturday's game in the second period before UVM took control the contest.

The weekend sweep marks the first time Vermont has opened the season 2-0-0 in its seven years in Division I.

The Catamounts continue their four-game homestand hosting Union this Friday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 4:00pm at Gutterson Fieldhouse. For ticket information, please contact the UVM Athletic Ticket Office at 1-866-4CAT-TIX or log on to uvmathletics.com. UVM students (with a valid ID) and all Rally's Round Up members are admitted free to all home women's hockey games.
