BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men’s basketball team will take on Concordia University from Montreal, Quebec on Wednesday at 7:00pm in the first of two preseason tune-ups for the Catamounts this season. UVM will also play neighboring Saint Michael’s College on Saturday (Nov. 3) at 3:30pm.

All Vermont men’s basketball home games can also be seen via the Internet this season. UVM has partnered with B2 Networks to provide streaming video of all home games on a pay-per-view basis ($6.00). CONCORDIA: The Stingers are located in Montreal, Quebec ... They defeated Illinois on September 2 at home, 86-82 ... Concordia will also play Northern Arizona, Arizona, Rhode Island and Maryland this season in exhibition contests ... The two teams met last season with Vermont winning 74-50 ... Colin McIntosh (Milton, Mass.) netted 11 for UVM in the victory.

SAINT MICHAEL’S: The Purple Knights are coming off a 16-13 campaign last season, as they also went 12-10 in Northeast-10 conference games … Saint Michael’s started the year 13-6 and played Vermont tough in a preseason tilt, falling 81-73 … The Purple Knights return two of their top four scorers from last season in Brian Monahan (15.6 ppg) and James Sorrentine (13.5 ppg) … James is the younger brother of former Catamount great T.J. Sorrentine ’05.

MEET THE NEWCOMERS: Wednesday’s meeting with Concordia will be the first collegiate action for four Catamount newcomers. Joey Accaoui (Lincoln, R.I.) and Garrett Kissel (Springfield, Mass.) played together at St. Andrews before coming to Vermont, while the Cats also add Evan Fjeld from Durham, N.C. and local product Pat Bergmann who played his high school ball at Rice.

CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED: Senior Kyle Cieplicki (Shelburne, Vt.) and junior Mike Trimboli (Norwalk, Conn.) have been named co-captains of the 2007-08 University of Vermont men’s basketball team. Head coach Mike Lonergan made the announcement on October 19. Cieplicki becomes the first three-year captain in school history.

CATS ON TV: Vermont will appear on television a minimum of 11 times this season, after playing in front of the cameras a school-record 14 times a year ago. The Catamounts first three games of the regular season will all be televised starting with the George Mason contest on November 9 (MASN, 7:00pm) and then two days later at Atlantic Coast Conference power Virginia (Raycom, 2:00pm). Other potential television appearances include the BracketBuster series on February 22-23 on the ESPN family of networks and the America East Championship, which will take place March 7-9 at the Events Center on the campus of Binghamton University. The finals will be held on March 15 at the highest remaining seed and be played on ESPN2.
