BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Vermont men’s basketball team will open the 2007-08 regular season when the Catamounts travel to face George Mason on Friday at 7:00pm. The game will be televised on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and can be heard live on WEAV-AM 960, WXZO-FM 96.7, WCVR-FM 102.1 (Randolph), and on the internet at www.uvmathletics.com with the audio stream provided by sportsjuice.com. The game can be seen at select 'Watch Here' locations in the area, but call ahead to make sure the game will be available. The defending America East Regular Season Champions open the season with eight of its first nine on the road. Friday will be the first meeting between the two teams in men’s basketball.

The Catamounts return a solid nucleus from last years squad that went 15-1 in league play and advanced to the postseason National Invitation Tournament nearly knocking off Big 12 member Kansas State on its home court.

After starting the season 5-5 Vermont finished the year winning 20 of its next 23 and tied the school record for wins with 25. The reigning America East Fans’ Choice Player of the Year, junior Mike Trimboli, returns to lead Vermont this season.

GEORGE MASON: The Patriots are coming off an 18-15 campaign last season and have been picked to finish first in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll. Will Thomas was selected preseason first-team All-CAA and Folarin Campbell was selected second-team All-CAA. George Mason is only two years removed from its remarkable run to the NCAA Final Four in 2006. Last year as the sixth-seed in the conference tournament, the Patriots advanced to the CAA Championship game before falling to Virginia Commonwealth. Over the past decade, the Patriots have been the CAA’s top team in terms of conference wins, overall wins, CAA winning percentage and overall winning percentage, while ranking second in postseason appearances.
